The people of United States have spoken, Barack Obama wins the election. He beat Senator John McCain with a lead of over 180 electoral votes. During his campaign, he has constantly emphasized on issues of rapidly ending the Iraq war, increasing energy independence, and providing universal health care.
As an opening to his speech in Chicago, IL after winning the race, Obama said:
“If the is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.”
True enough, Obama is the first African-American to be elected President of the United States.
In his message when he conceded presidency, Senator John McCain stated that this is an historic election and that he recognizes the special significance that it has for African-Americans and for the special pride that they feel now. He also stated that Obama has achieved a great thing for himself and for his country.
As his campaign slogan goes, “Need for Change”, people are now expecting a lot of change. They are hoping that Obama will be the one who will be able to make it happen. As he said:
“Change has come…The road ahead will be long, our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year, or even in one term, but America I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there.”
Congratulations to the newly-elected President, Barack Obama, to all those who supported him, and to the people of United States.
